Brussels, 12 May, 2011 - EDANA, the association serving the nonwovens and related industries, today announced the release of the updated 2011 edition of the ‘Standard Test Methods for the Nonwovens Industry’.

The update will be made available free of charge to all EDANA member companies, through their Association contact via the EDANA members-only DocShare portal. The document remains available for purchase by non-members for €680. Companies or individuals interested in purchasing the Test Methods should contact Shelley Bonner via shelley.bonner@edana.org.

The first edition of the “Standard Test Methods for the Nonwovens Industry” was published in April 2005, the result of a joint effort by EDANA and our North American counterpart INDA. Since that date, a number of methods have been updated and revised by both INDA and EDANA; others are new and have been made available on demand to members and non-members alike.

Apart from the version circulated on demand in 2008, the 2011 edition is the first proposed by EDANA, and it reflects all changes introduced by INDA in the meantime. In particular, revisions made in 2008 and 2009 have eliminated all references to documents named “ERT” or “IST”, the nomenclature in place before the 2005 publication.

Major changes include:
  • The title now refers more accurately to the type of businesses these methods are designed to help;
  • Addition of new WSP test methods for assessing materials or the actions of those materials previously approved;
  • New methods published by partner organisations, relevant to the nonwovens and related industries;
  • The addition of methods proposed by the INDA/EDANA Flushability Task Force;
  • Update to various methods, already provided in the 2005 document.
While this edition of the Harmonized Test Methods for the Nonwovens and Related Industries represents the latest and most complete version of the document, it is foreseen to introduce more changes in the near future, in particular with respect to numbering and tracking of modifications.
