EDANA’s INDEX 08 Awards are the showcase for the best examples of excellence in our industry and highlight some of the innovations from businesses of all sizes, from all parts of the nonwovens supply chain. There are six awards in total covering everything from product and process innovations to marketing brilliance. There is also a brand new award to recognise a solution or product involving nonwovens which has provided a significant humanitarian or environmental contribution.

INDEX 08, the world’s largest nonwovens exhibition, is taking place at Geneva Palexpo from 15-18 April 2008. Over four days the exhibition will bring together all the players in the nonwovens industry from raw material producers to manufacturers, finishers to converters, to environmental protection, measuring and testing equipment manufacturers, to trade associations and journals. Over 13,000 visitors come to INDEX to look into the future of nonwovens, to see first-hand what the leading experts in the field have to offer.

A unique and coveted award
EDANA, the international association representing the interests of nonwovens and related industries, and sponsor of INDEX, is launching the popular INDEX Awards Competition for innovations in the nonwovens field. The aim of the INDEX Awards, only given once ever three years, is to encourage and acknowledge innovation and new ideas in nonwovens, their raw materials and the machinery used in making or converting nonwovens.

All qualifying entries will be publicised in a special press release three weeks before INDEX 08. The winners will be presented with their awards at a special Awards Ceremony at INDEX 08, attended by the media. Winning an INDEX Award is the highest accolade that can be given to a company for achievement in nonwovens. Award winners gain from improved standing within the nonwovens business community, as well as significant public relations advantages.

We will recognise the achievements of innovators with winners selected in the following six areas:
  1. Nonwoven roll goods.
  2. Finished products made from, or incorporating nonwovens.
  3. Marketing achievement for the most original marketing campaign for a product made from, or incorporating nonwovens.
  4. Raw materials or component - innovation in a raw material (for example fibre, binder), of special relevance to the nonwoven industry.
  5. Machinery - innovation in machinery of special relevance to the nonwoven industry.
  6. Humanitarian contribution - a new award for a solution or product involving nonwovens which has provided a significant humanitarian or environmental contribution.
Recent winners include Advanced Design Concepts, Ahlstrom, Freudenberg Vliesstoffe, BASF and Küsters.

How to apply
EDANA believes that excellence should be recognised and we invite the nonwovens industry to submit their innovative products. Any company who is a member of EDANA and/or exhibiting at INDEX 08 is eligible to enter the competition. Companies are asked to submit their application and samples (if relevant) by 2 January 2008.

The jury
Appropriately, the winners will be selected by top professionals from the nonwovens industry. The esteemed jury, compiled of former company marketing and R&D experts, the media, academics, and European policy makers, will decide on the winners of the awards in early 2008.

The Award … a work of art designed by world famous sculptor

Each winner will receive a specially commissioned bronze sculpture and a diploma.
Designed by world-famous Belgian sculptor, Olivier Strebelle, the stunning work of art is both beautiful and representative of the diversity of EDANA’s members and their products.  Olivier Strebelle, born in 1927, had already gained an enviable reputation by the age of 20 and today his sculptures are displayed in major cities in Europe, in the United States and Asia. He will design the 100 metre long series of sculptures for the new Olympic Museum and Park to be opened by the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Taking inspiration from nonwoven roll goods, end-product and machinery, the EDANA logo and from the Chinese lucky number 8 (Olympics 08, Index 08), Strebelle has designed a striking 8-position bronze sculpture which evokes many of the characteristics of nonwovens including versatility, protection, separation.
