Russian training course on Absorbent Hygiene Products delivers nonwovens industry support

EDANA reports the successful delivery of a training course on Absorbent Hygiene Products on 3-4 June 2014 to local and regional industry representatives in Moscow. Twenty participants from sixteen organisations throughout the nonwoven hygiene value chain attended the course, which was delivered in English and translated into Russian.

Led by Jean-Michel Anspach, EDANA’s Technical and Education Director, the course enabled individuals from all stages of the nonwovens supply chain to quickly gain a complete understanding of the various technologies, processes, raw materials and market aspects of absorbent hygiene products.

“The course was very useful for me and I enjoyed it, as I believe did all of the participants” said Elena Ovchinnikova, Brand Manager at Hygiene Technologies Ltd.

“EDANA has a strong commitment to Russia and the CIS markets, and to our member companies active there.  Hosting the training course, together with input from local experts addresses the priority needs of those companies who are most closely following the demand for nonwovens in the region.” Said Pierre Wiertz, General Manager of EDANA.

“Expansion of EDANA’s training programme to Russia was proposed by the Association’s Russia-CIS Chapter, which was established following the Russian Symposium in 2013, and workshops held in previous years. Local companies have also registered their interest in the other courses offered by EDANA, to enable companies to keep abreast of developments in the manufacture, conversion and applications of nonwovens.” Said Pierre Conrath, EDANA’s Director of Sustainability and Public Affairs, and coordinator of the Russia-CIS Chapter.

In addition to the standard training materials, trainees were additionally briefed on product testing in Russia by Nadezda Konopleva of the accredited testing laboratory ‘Test Saint Petersburg’ ( On the second day, participants also had the opportunity to visit the production facilities of SCA in Veniov, south of Moscow, where they toured a state-of-the-art facility producing baby diapers and adult incontinence products.
