Nonwovens Support Sustainable Construction and Housing

EDANA launches newest infographic, for flat roofing in its “Life with Nonwovens” series, delivered as part of its study into durable nonwoven applications.

EDANA, the leading global association serving the nonwovens and related industries today launched the newest infographics for flat roofing in its “Life with Nonwovens” series, delivered as part of its study into durable nonwoven applications.

123 tonnes of nonwovens were produced in 2014 for Greater Europe for waterproof bitimunious membranes – used mainly as underslating in pitched roofing – more than enough to cover a country the size of Singapore.

In flat roofing, nonwoven materials made of polyester are used as carrier material for bituminous membranes on flat roofs. With flexible long-lasting materials and a quick manufacturing process, the nonwoven solution offers a failure-free installation and protection.

These nonwoven materials weight just 4% of the average waterproof product, meaning not only fewer resources in the material, but a lighter weight to support in the construction, therefore requiring less reinforcing. In addition, with the nonwoven material expected to last for 40 years or more, nonwovens offer a solution which is lightweight, wont rot, and provides an effective barrier between the construction and the environment.

The infographics for both flat and pitched roofing are on the EDANA website, and available to download from here - http://www.edana.org/discover-nonwovens/products-applications/building.
